And That's A Wrap...

01 Jul 2003

Glastonbury Festival has now passed into memory for another year. All across the country (and beyond), people are taking sickies and lying on their sofas wrapped in duvets - wondering whether they should finish off the last of the cake and beer or just sleep a bit more. Others are back at work and having a hellish time of it, visiting the toilet at least once in the day to have a quick weep.

This year's festival couldn't have been better. Whether you were basking in the sunshine at the Pyramid and listening to Jimmy Cliff, throwing shapes to the basslines at the Glade, or sitting on top of a stone at Kings Meadow watching the sun come up, We saw you smiling, laughing and having a good time. You crazy, crazy cats.

The weather was on the whole very good. OK, it throws it down on Friday and parts of Sunday are a bit watery too, but very little mud and only for a short while. The lanes had to be given a regular dousing to keep the dust down, if we remember rightly. Sounds like a pretty decent year to us.

The music was, at times, sublime. Memorable performances by Electric 6, Radiohead, REM and Moby will ensure that, for instance, we'll never again be able to hear somebody say 'Gaybar' without being magically transported back to a field in Somerset with a big grin on our chops. We're sure you've got your own magic moments. If you send them to us we will put them up. Provided we think they're any good, of course...

Now it's back to the grind. Sorry but you've got to pay off that overdraft and save some money for next year. We know you're feeling a bit wierd right now, don't worry - it's natural. Common post-Glastonbury behavioural traits can include the following:

  • Get photos back as soon as possible, gather round and coo all over them
  • Look all forlorn for about a fortnight
  • Leave it until the last possible minute to finally cut off your wristband (some people out there still wearing last year's. Eurgh)
  • Refuse to remove the parking pass from your windscreen
  • Spend the 2nd half of 2003 dreaming about Glastonbury 2003
  • Spend the 1st half of 2004 dreaming about Glastonbury 2004

Stalker is currently nursing his fragile mind back to reality by playing marbles with his son and dribbling into the carpet.
