Glastonbury Extravaganza A Sell Out
22 Jul 2003Michael Eavis announced today that the Musical Extravaganza at Glastonbury Abbey on August 2nd is a sell out for the first time.
"This is really exciting news" Michael enthused. "The Extravaganza brings lots of visitors into the town for the weekend – providing plenty of trade for the High Street businesses, the local tourist attractions and visitor accommodation. It is going to be an amazing week in Glastonbury, because as well as the Extravaganza, the wonderful Children’s World Festival is being held in the Abbey Park, the Goddess Conference and Exhibition is at various venues, and Miracle Plays are being enacted in the Abbey Grounds."
"We may look at changing the format of the Extravaganza, but that is in the future. Unfortunately if you have not got your ticket for this year already, you will be too late. We will not have tickets on sale at the gate – so for the first time the message is the same as at the Festival – please do not come if you have not got a ticket"
The Extravaganza will start earler than advertised. Gates will open to ticket holders at 5.30pm with Nicola Benedetti (violinist and winner of Britain’s Brilliant Prodigy 2002) starting proceedings at 6.45pm. Chris Holland takes the stage at 7.30 pm, before his brother, Jools Holland, accompanied by his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, featuring Gilson Lavis and guest vocalist, Sam Brown at 8.20pm.
Michael appealed to ticket holders to make use of the Park and Ride facility from Clarks Village carpark. "There is not a lot of parking in the centre of town, and with a sell out it is likely to become very congested. There is plenty of space at Clarks Village in Street to park so the Park and Ride scheme is a really sensible option. The coaches start shuttling people from Street at 4.45pm and continue until everyone has been returned to their cars. Carparking facilities have been arranged on the edge of the town as well for those that do not use the Park and Ride."
"Come early, bring your picnic and prepare to revel in a wonderful evening of music, captured on large screens this year, and topped off with the famous Extravaganza firework display. It should be another memorable evening."
