GLASTONBURY 2003

THE SUN SHONE AND THE TV RATINGS WENT UP, UP, UP!

This year's Glastonbury Festival reached a record live TV audience on each of the three days. Viewing figures peaked at 1.7 million on Saturday evening when Radiohead hit the Pyramid Stage. Overall, BBC2's share of viewing audience was UP to 8.9 per cent, a healthy 10 per cent increase on the 2002 figures.

Meanwhile BBC3's share of viewers almost doubled, reaching 1.7 per cent of all viewers in multi-channel homes. Repeat programmes on BBC3 the following week were also very successful, scoring a four-fold increase on the 2002
audience figures.

"Glastonbury Festival now gives artists a comprehensive media platform in the UK," says Ben Challis, Executive Producer for Glastonbury Television. "Extensive coverage on BBC2, BBC3 and BBC4 is augmented by radio coverage
by Radio 1 and Radio 4, and on the internet with Playlouder.com and Freeserve.

"The Festival is now very attractive to domestic and visiting artists, with many promotional opportunities in the UK. We are continuing to work with the BBC to provide better and wider coverage."

Glastonbury Festival organisers were delighted with the unprecedented international coverage of this year's event. With a total of 750 media representatives attending the Festival, one of the most successful new ventures was the series of the radio and internet broadcasts to over 15
million Farsi speakers in Iran and Afghanistan by the BBC World Service.

Other highlights included a visit by a Ukranian film crew, the second live broadcast of Radio 4's 'The Archers' and a Russian trade delegation invited by the British Council.

Further international TV coverage of Glastonbury Festival 2003 will include broadcasts in Australia, Canada and Japan.
