One World , Kidz and Acoustic Stages
This information relates to Glastonbury Festival 2003
This year definitely sees a blurring of the boundaries between the newly named One World stage, previously known as Jazz World, and the epicentre of the Pyramid stage. Global rhythms and the perennially popular guitar now sit side-by-side as the audience and musicians begin to see the world as less segregated, at least musically, than it has ever been. With a host of international names appearing, each crossing countless musical boundaries, sometimes in a single song, the renaming of the stage has never been more apt. After all world music embraces the notion of improvising, the key to jazz’s identity, yet under this guise anything can happen from pop to bangra, drum and bass to jazz trumpet paying, all is not as it seems.
Do you think you might need a break from the hustle and bustle of Glastonbury Festival’s main drag? If so, you could do a lot worse than escape for a while to the Blue Zone, particularly if you've brought young children with you.
Indeed, you may never want to leave the blue zone if you came with the family, as the family camping site is here, along with the Kidz Field (for children of 12 and under) and the Acoustic stage.
The Acoustic stage specialises in folk, roots, blues and traditional rock 'n' roll, ideal for chilling out to if it’s sunny. If the rain is coming down in sheets, it’s also a convivial tent in which to hide and listen to fine music.
The stage regularly features great artists such as The Waterboys, Robert Plant, The Bootleg Beatles and (in a moment of full-to-burstingness in 1995) Portishead.
The Kidz Field, situated next door, offers all the fun a twelve year old or under could possibly want; from fairground rides to puppeteers, workshops to storytellers. It’s open from 9am to 7pm and offers a safe environment in which the family can relax.
And all of this is only a short stroll away from family camping. Who says a crazy time at Glastonbury Festival can’t be relaxing and even fun for all the family?
