The Left Field Stage
2003 Sees A Radical Return
Following its successful inception at Glastonbury 2002, the Left Field returns in 2003, bigger, better and angrier than ever- and with what promises to be a dazzling array of speakers and performers. The concept of the Left Field is to reaffirm the spirit of political debate at the festival, with a focus on International Workers Solidarity: to engage festivalgoers in the value of trade union membership and to discuss whether music can make a difference. The debates this year will see the return of the perennial Tony Benn MP and his musician compatriot, Roy Bailey, along with Trade Union leaders from around the world and other well known faces. Audience participation essential!
The Left Field opens on FRIDAY and this night will be dedicated to our great supporter, Joe Strummer, with his musician friends, such as Phill Jupitus & Don Letts keeping his spirit alive & kicking. SATURDAY will be a comedy night featuring subversive stand-ups such as Mark Thomas, and Jeremy Hardy and classic music & cult films late into the night. On SUNDAY, Asian Dub Foundation take over War on Want sound system, but the The LeftField wouldn't be complete without a set from England's greatest bard, Billy Bragg, who will be joined by other like-minded performers throughout the weekend.
The tent will contain various campaign activitiess and along with happy hour cocktails at our bar, fair trade coffee & snacks, the LeftField gives you the perfect reason to be radical! LeftField welcomes your suggestions on topics, speakers, performers, etc so please email: [email protected] with your ideas or see www.leftfield.coop
