Green Crafts Field
This area is part of the spirit that brought people together here in the first place, long before the fence, the big screens and mobile phones.
The Field provides a bustling showcase for the exceptional abilities of some of the country’s finest independent crafts people, including potters, woodworkers, metalworkers and stonemasons. Visitors can watch any aspect of the basic elements of fire, earth, water and air used to create deeply meaningful expressions of true human nature. Stunning sculptures stand in specially crafted gardens, woodchips fly, and the sound of hand crafted musical instruments compete with the noise of fulfilling work and the laughter that accompanies it.
The Field also offers a chance to meet with some of those who have long, long relationships with the Pilton showdown, with a few tales to tell. And you can even take home your very own work of art to remind you of this year’s party when the hazy memories have been vaporised and phone numbers erased.
The Field displays the art of the centuries – a living, breathing, beer-drinking part of the real culture of this country and the rest of the world. It has bound communities and generations since early people first channelled their imagination through the raw materials around them, enhancing and multiplying the creative spirit.
