Jools Holland at Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza
For seven years Michael Eavis has organised the Classical Extravaganza in the wonderful grounds of Glastonbury Abbey. There have been many memorable performances, but this time Michael has decided to ring the changes. On August 2nd, 2003, Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra will provide the entertainment.
The Extravaganza will retain all its spectacle and occasion - with fireworks, lights, candelabra and picnics, but the music will be very different. Jools Holland's unbelievable keyboard talent and enthusiasm, together with the vibrancy of his Orchestra, make them a hugely popular live act, great fun and with wide appeal.
Michael explained 'I have a good relationship with Jools. He loves to come to our Glastonbury Festival and we go to his Hootenany TV show at the New Year. If the new format works really well - and I think that we will sell all the tickets because Jools is so popular - in future years we might revert to the two night format, but with a different programme on each night - perhaps with Jools on the Saturday and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra providing a traditional popular classics night on the Friday.'
'We are putting tickets on sale from December 1st. This is the first time we have made them available so early. They make a great Christmas present!'
Michael also announced that Nicola Benedetti, a 15 year old violinist who won the Britain's Brilliant Prodigies television competition earlier this year, would perform at the Extravaganza in 2003.
