Train Customer Information

Wessex Trains will be providing a substantially enhanced service to the Festival Interchange station at Castle Cary to cope with the expected increased demand from passengers attending the Glastonbury Festival 2004. Passengers are advised to check their journey plans before traveling and to allow plenty of time as all trains are expected to be very busy. A free bus-shuttle will operate from Castle Cary to the festival site. Passengers should be aware that they will not be allowed to use this service unless they are in possession of a festival ticket. Additional facilities are being provided at Castle Cary station, including refreshments, toilets, first aid, and customer help points and telephones. Unfortunately it will not be possible to park at the station during this time and it has not been possible to arrange left luggage facilities. Passengers are especially asked to take care while on station platforms and to ensure that luggage is not left unattended and rucksacks and tents do not overhang platforms and risk being caught by moving trains. Whilst we have planned one of the most extensive services ever, queuing for trains remains likely. Leaving the festival, trains are least crowded Sunday afternoon and in the early hours of Monday morning and passengers are strongly advised to take advantage of these extra services. Passengers are reminded that all tickets for the Glastonbury Festival are now sold and people without tickets will not be allowed entry.

* Change at Westbury very limited capacity on this service Wednesday and Thursday the last connecting train from Cheltenham is 17.33 and from Cardiff is 17.25 Friday (the least busy) 11.25 from Cardiff and 11.33 from Cheltenham after these times any remaining festival goers will need to travel via Bristol Temple Meads. Passengers from South and West Wales and also the Marches Line via Newport - should catch the next FGW service to Swindon and connect to the shuttle direct to Castle Cary. Weymouth line trains are unlikely to be strengthened each day. This is due to the shuttle service operating out of Swindon and the shortage of rolling stock created by the engineering work at Filton Please can you ensure that all staff who have customer contact or may be just providing friendly advice to pass on the above information. Can I particularly ask the Traincrew Managers to ensure that Conductors fully understand what is required by either briefing staff personally or ensuring that they receive a copy of this e’mail. It is important that everyone fully understands that the shuttle interchange this year is at Swindon. No shuttles operate from Taunton and wherever possible customers for the Glastonbury Festival should be discouraged from travelling through Bristol due to the restricted train service caused by extensive engineering work. Your help in making this work will be very much appreciated at this busy time.
