TIPIS

Tipis have played a part in the festival at Pilton since the early days. Given the extraordinary power and beauty of these majestic structures they soon established themselves as part of the annual landscape at Worthy Farm. Over the years Tipis became more popular and soon the Tipi Circle evolved to become what is now the Tipi Field.

The Field brings together an eclectic mix of people and lifestyles; from those committed enough to live full time in a Tipi through to weekenders and first timers. Rainbow Circle will be back in the Tipi Field this year, creating a nature garden and bringing their magic, song and sharing. The Tipi Valley folk will once again be present, providing the experience of those actually living on the land. Expect bagpipes, sheepskins, earth ovens and more. Shelter's Unlimited's fine Tipis with their big lodge and light-show will again be a spectacular feature of the field. In 2003 they had a sandpit Tipi and a giant Celtic maze and the return of the much loved Sweat-Lodge, which occupied a cosy, protected position in the top corner of the field. The unifying bond for all those who make up the Tipi Field is love and respect for the earth.

The Tipi Field is very family friendly, with many children and lots of space for them to run and play freely. It is the only field to have a central fire and a large open circle - this focuses the space and is ideal for performances, workshops and ceremonies. There will be a whole host of arranged and spontaneous events and activities taking place in the field this year. These range from felt-making and tai chi, to clowning and shamanic ritual. Many workshops will be tailored especially for children, including storytelling, painting and craft activities. As usual t here will be plenty of beautiful acoustic music, tea and flapjacks, and relaxing fireside tales.

Being part of the Green Fields means that anyone living in the Tipi Field is already based in the most beautiful, interesting and varied part of the festiva l. Adjoining the Tipi Field is the lively Avalon Field and the delightful absurdities of 'Lost Vagueness'. The Tipi Field is also close to other central attractions of the Festival including the Jazz World open-air stage, and the Theatre and Circus field s. With it's convenient location, friendly atmosphere and magical ambience, it is no surprise that many consider the Tipi Field to be their favourite space on site.
