OBI Start a Great Day

Acoustic Stage - Saturday

Fresh from performing at the Isle of White Festival a few weeks back, the honour of kicking off day two in the Acoustic Tent fell to Shepherds Bush Britpop pioneers Obi.

The fact that Obi performed very plugged in (even though I'm sure it says "acoustic" on the tent) didn't seem to bother the crowd who were sprawled in or around the tent escaping or enjoying the morning sun respectively.

Mojo magazine describe Damian Katkhuda, Dom Hazlehurst, Tom Worsley and Ben Kempton's music as 'utterly charming...a melodic master class', and this reporter would have to agree.

In a concise 25 minute set, Obi strung a consistent and affecting sound together. There were echoes of Travis and Toad the Wet Sprocket here; not necessarily a bad thing.

Hours later their songs are still ringing in my head.
