Skatalites

In the mood for ska

OneWorld Stage - Friday

Irie! I’m nearly always in the mood for ska, and it was a treat to see legendary band The Skatalites live at Glastonbury’s eclectic One World stage, bringing us their skankin’ Jamaican music.

They were the original sound of 50s and 60s Jamaica, and these top-notch musicians put on a superb performance, and gave us delightful ska as well as slower rocksteady grooves with a great vocalist, bringing West Indian sunshine vibes with her.

The crowds delighted in I’m in the mood for Ska and finished with a blistering Phoenix City. And that’s the beauty of Glastonbury – room for bands old and new, and a few true legends, too. All I needed was a Red Stripe instead of the Carlsberg I was clutching, but you can’t have everything!
