It’s hot and everyone’s feeling a bit sticky, but I am Kloot are just what the doctor ordered to take everyone’s minds of their hangovers and sunburn. You’d think this Manchester 3-piece would be more suited to playing smaller, more intimate venues but their laid back swaggering tunes more than adequately fill the atmosphere at the bustling Other Stage.
Once John Bramwell (Vocals/Guitar) has given the crowd some top tips on how to banish hayfever, they kick off with Twist. Bramwell’s voice is unnerving as he utters ‘There’s blood on your legs – I love you.’ Bizarre. By the time they reach ‘86 TV’s’ the crowd are well into the swing of things and the band look like they might be having an alright time too.
Most of the songs played today are from their first album ‘I Am Kloot’ (2001) which was recorded by Elbow front-man, Guy Garvey who, joins them today hot foot from an acoustic set in The Guardian Lounge, to sing To You. It’s all good, the crowd are loving it and the band start the intro of their final song of the set.
But then what’s this? The stage manager has pulled the plug, the band has run over time and the crowd give supportive boo’s to Bramwell who rebels with ‘I’m not going anywhere’. But he soon finds out he has no choice, as their twangs are silenced with the push of a fader. Doh! Glastonbury may be over for the Kloot boys, but damn, they were good!
