"Don’t pray for rain, leave it just the same, there’s no need to change it all" implores Bodixa’s slight and enchanting chanteuse Anna Elias during (oddly enough) the song ‘Don’t Pray for Rain’. Too late folks. It’s pouring down out there. Still… safe beneath the deep blue skies of the Acoustic Tent a vast, damp, yet handsome crowd are here to be entertained. They are… royally.
Fresh from their all conquering UK Roadworks tour with Adam Masterson and Astrid Williamson, Bodixa’s pride and pleasure to be performing at Glastonbury beams through the Saturday afternoon gloom as they effortlessly shimmer through a set of elegantly poised studies in self-doubt and guarded optimism; sensitive people performing deeply sensitive songs.
A delicate self-belief exudes on openner ‘Balloon’ and sets the gorgeous tone. The space crafted by rhythm section Daniel Norton on bass, Phil Hicks on drums and Dave Redfern’s gossamer guitar provides the perfect backdrop to Bodixa’s knockout punch - Anna and her vocal twin and co-conspirator Emily Norton, entwining tight, close, intuitive harmonies. Killer vocals delivered with rare and subtle élan.
Forthcoming single ‘California’ delivers big. A classic in the making whilst b-side ‘Sleepless’ concludes a triumphant Glastonbury debut, leaving a spellbound audience extremely high and a little drier.
