Young Nicola joins Jools once again for Extravaganza 2004
The Musical Extravaganza at Glastonbury Abbey – now in its ninth year - boasts an impressive line up with more acts, and indeed more nights, than ever before.
This year sees a very special welcome return of 16 year old musician Nicola Benedetti. Miss Benedetti will take to the stage on the same evening as the fantastic Jools Holland. Nicola, who studied at Yehudi Menuhin violin school from the age of 10 was voted BBC Young Musician of the Year in May. She is now on the brink of signing a £1 million record deal. Last year Nicola delighted the 10,000 strong audience with her impressive violinistic skills - an amazing performance set in front of the largest audience she had ever played for. The Extravaganza organisers are delighted to have her back.
There is something for everyone over the weekend with local Somerset resident Van Morrison kicking off the Extravaganza on Friday 30th July.
On Saturday evening the concert reflects its original classical roots with an evening with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra providing a programme of popular classical pieces. The enchanting backdrop of the Abbey is emphasised on this night by spectacular fireworks and a water display. The atmosphere is truly magical.
Sunday August 1st sees the triumphant return of Jools Holland playing with his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, accompanied by his virtuoso drummer Gilson Lavis and compelling vocalists Sam Brown and Ruby Turner.
The Extravaganza is a fantastic opportunity for the family to enjoy a diversity of musical talent. The combination of tuneful delights and the historic Abbey setting provide the perfect opportunity for the family to pack up a picnic. Setting up pitch early will ensure leisurely enjoyment of the evening’s live entertainment.
