Rusby

This page is provided only for information, it does not apply to the 2002 festival.
As I arrived at the acoustic stage to watch Kate Rusby this evening, a capacity crown was already there ahead of me, and there was a great sense of anticipation hanging in the air. Over the last 18 months, and with thanks to her popular self penned website www.purerecords.demon.co.uk, Rusby has seen her stature within the music industry rapidly grow. She is now the brightest light shining in English folk music. She has sold countless copies of her multi-award winning album Hourglass on the label she and her parents run from a cottage in Barnsley. She is quite an entrepaneur. As well as a being a beautiful singer with a delicate sensibility, Rusby is somewhat of an aspiring comedien. Her anecdotes between songs, all told in a thick tyke accent had the audience falling about in laughter. This endeared me to her even more. Her songs where all whitty, sharp and sincere slices of a rare talent from a great artist. Make sure you see her next time she comes to a town near you.
