Jack and the Lads
Jack Lukeman makes two appearences at this year's Glastonbury Festival. During his first performance on the Acoustic Stage, a Scotsman leans over to tell me all his Irish friends think Jack is the next big thing. Jack seems to think so too. Being voted Dublin's most sexy man under 25 for two years running must have done something for his confidence. Dressed in a pair of PVC pants, a suit jacket and shirt, Jack throws his buttonhole to the audience and croons to the tent top like a modern day Sinatra. The jacket comes off in a typical windmill style before landing somewhere back stage. Jack is camping it up. Pelvic thrusts accompany the raunchy Bedsprings and a feather boa emerges for Ode to Ed Wood or I like Boys and I like Girls.
The audience are appreciative and even though Lukeman's album Metropolis Blues has only been released in Ireland and the United States, there are a few people in the crowd singing along with him. Lukeman plays the Other Stage on Sunday accompanied by his four piece band. Ila Couch-Coleman
