Transglobal Sound System:The Interview

This page is provided only for information, it does not apply to the 2002 festival.
So are you having a good time so far? Dee:Yeah its been greatalthough we had a bit of difficulty getting here. Was that the traffic or a lack of a car pass? Dee:No, worse. We had a car pass sorted out.we just didnt have a carLong story. So whats your favourite Glastonbury moment over the years? Dee:Well we played a few times in the early nineties but its got to be the Jazz Stage in about 1994-95. It was a full sea of people, it was mind blowingbrilliant. They had these like stilt walkers, there were about 8 of them and a person would come up to about their knees. You could see these giants wandering about in the crowd. It was amazing..absolutly amazing. Its just such a great buzz. JazzWorld...well thats where the vibe is. I love it. So are you here for the duration or are you playing out somewhere else? Dee:Basically, weve got to be in London tomorrow. How do you feel about that? Dee:...Silence speaks volumes, mate. For real. Im thinking about coming back. If I can, Sunday night Im going to try to get back. Well maybe even Saturday, late Saturday night. I dont know. So how did the set go tonight? Dee:Well the set went well. It wasnt what we planned to play at all. This morning and last night, on the phone, we were having a chat worked and out what we were going to do with it. About 15 minutes into the set itself it went sort of left of centre. We just went off on one. I had the drummer come up to me and say play a bit of this, play a bit of that. The sitar player saying play a bit of this, play a bit of that. Toop came down and did a bit of MC-ing that had me on a different tip as well. You never know what that man is gonna do. Nothing is worked out, everythings sort of on the fly. We kind of meandered. We did the Asian, the Afro Beat, we did some funky stuff.
So are you going to be doing any more collaborations with Natasha Atlas? Dee:Good question.shes really busy right now. Her profile's gone through the roof lately and shes pretty much out of the country. Weve talked about it and put a few ideas down but you will just have to wait and see. Watch this space.
