 Reve d'Image
Slow mo muscle control
|
|
French dancers Reve d'image have appeared on the Dance, Variety and Fire stage several times over Glastonbury weekend and they seem to have gathered a healthy band of followers who stay for dancer Patrick's after show workshops and bravely attempt the duo's unique style of slow motion dance.
This is not loud, fast and exciting; it is atmospheric, touchingly slow and strangely moving. It is easy to imagine the two dancers are submerged under water and are bobbing along on the ocean floor. To achieve this image requires the highest levels of muscle control and Trash, the DVF stage compere has made several allusions to their firm thighs and highly touchable arms.

All in flowing white, the buoyant couple take their audience through a finely tuned fantasy love story to a soundtrack played by a barely visible man in black. Pops, squeaks, bubbles and the haunting voice of "computer-woman" provide a musical backdrop as the pair literally bounce off each other. It looked so easy. Anyone can do that, I thought - until I joined in and realised I was laughably wrong. It took me twenty minutes to learn how to take one step and then I fell over. My knees still hurt, 24 hours later. I sit here aching and humbled.
