Morcheeba's Sky Makes It A Starry Night To Remember!
Good things come to those who wait and for those waiting for tonights final act on the extraordinary Jazzworld stage, they were rewarded for their patience, despite a 15min delay before kick off. Hitting the stage vocalist Sky Edwards shielded her eyes to in an attempt to to calm her nerves infront of the huge crowd- "I can't see you", she insists before looking out across the see of faces exclaiming, "Aaaaah!", before laughing in disbelief at the huge turn out. 'Big Calm' became the most played student album of a couple of years back and the packed Jazzworld field was testimony to the loyalty of the fans. Sky, looking great in a pair of spangly silver hipsters, was swaying like the mischievious funkster she is. Playing songs from Big Calm including The Sea, Bullet Proof and Shoulder Holster, Sky seduced the crowd with her immaculately silky smooth voice. Sounding extremely tight the Jazzword's infinitely superior sound system came in to it's own - these guys didn't want to drop a single beat and on this form they didn't. 'Fragments Of Freedom' is the new album, released in a week, and this was the very first time anyone outside of the Morcheeba camp had heard the new material live. Any Good? I hear you cry, yes very, is all we can reply! 'You Can't Keep A Good Girl Down' was the second newy with an R&B; flavoured funk groove that despite its obvious sources of inspiration was still shot through with their ice cool composure. The brothers Paul and Ross Godfrey playing guitar and keys respectively laid down some mean grooves while the crowd sang evey word along with Sky, this was a meeting of the minds and nothing less. Morcheeba know they're good but this isn't because they have egos. They don't, it's just that no one does this as well as them, with no where near as much style. Here they are effortless, charismatic yet laid back, capped off with Sky Edwards, a performer who will be around a lot longer than most, with one of the sweetest voices on the planet.
