Before Christmas, Michael Eavis will lodge an application for a Public Entertainment Licence with Mendip District Council to hold a festival on 28th, 29th and 30th June 2002. After further consultation with local people (a public meeting was held at the Council Offices on 7th November) a meeting of the Mendip District Council Regulatory Board will consider the licence application in the third week on January.
As many of you will know, Glastonbury Festivals were due to attend a licence application meeting with Mendip District Council on Thursday evening to put forward a formal application for next year's festival. After careful consideration, Michael has opted to withdraw his application at this time with a view to re-submitting it before Christmas.
We realise that many of you had been anxiously awaiting the outcome of this event and that it's postponement will come as something of a blow. However, the application of the licence is a delicate process. To take chances at this stage would be to risk the long term future of the festival.
The application will be re-submitted in a matter of weeks, keep your fingers crossed and check this site for further details......
