 Graffiti Break
'Break.' (Interview with graffiti artist).
Did you know about the Glade graffiti space before you came to the festival?
Yeah, I've been before. They had the same thing two years ago.
How long have you been doing graffiti?
I grew up in Frome but I've only been doing it since I left there. As soon as I was old enough. So the last five to six years.

What got you in to it?
There was a book at school with pictures of New York subway trains covered in graffiti. I wanted to do it as soon as I saw that. Art was definitely the thing I enjoyed most at school.
How long has this piece (see picture) taken you?
This one took about three hours. That's fairly typical. When I'm doing them I'm really focused, I go into my own little world.

Are there enough spaces to do this sort of thing in the outside world?
I'm from Swindon and really there are not too many places. I prefer the legal walls, you don't have to work in a hurry or looking over your shoulder the whole time.
I used to spray my council flat all the time. The problem is if you don't get to tag for a while, when you go back to it your perspective tends to be a bit out. That takes time to get back.
So have you ever been caught tagging illegally?
Yeah, I was arrested once for doing a wall. I got a caution.
Is this just a hobby or something you plan to make a living from?
At the moment it's just for pleasure, but I would really like to make a career out of it. I need to do some canvases in a studio, maybe have them used in clubs. I'm doing sequential illustration at college, comic books stuff like that so I'm getting experience in using pencils, inks and acrylics. I could do graphic novels definitely.
