Make Trade Fair
IT'S TIME TO MAKE TRADE FAIR |
|
Photography © 2003 supplied courtesy of Thomas Rabsch/Idols | The rules of world trade allow rich countries to pay their wealthiest farmers millions of dollars to grow too much and then dump it on poor countries. This means that poor farmers can't sell their own produce in their own countries. So they can't afford to put food on the table, send their kids to school or buy basic medicines. TAKE ACTION - help put an end to rigged rules and double standards in world trade. At this year's festival visit the Oxfam stalls by the Pyramid Stage and the Greenfield. Add your name to the growing Big Noise petition to Make Trade Fair. Or visit: www.maketradefair.com |
| Why? Because, whether you like it or not, almost every time you buy something made or grown in a developing country, you are engaging in a system that rips off people who already live in poverty. And that's because the rules that govern world trade are rigged in favour of rich countries such as our own. You can also help to Make Trade Fair when you shop. By choosing Fair Trade goods you are helping farmers and small-scale producers get a better deal. Look out for Fair Trade products at your local supermarket and onsite at this year's festival. | |
