Julian Cope

Cope Copes

Acoustic Stage - Friday

Ex-Teardrop Explodes front man Julian Cope has drawn the short straw and is playing up against rock demigods REM over at the Pyramid Stage.

If history was written differently and The Teardrop Explodes hadn't finally, spectacularly, imploded back in the early 1980s, then it might have been them headlining there tonight.

And so topping the bill in the Acoustic Tent this year, the ex-Teardrop Explodes front man takes the stage with the swagger and conviction of a man who has seen and done it all.

Cope's band punch out a hard-hitting set. Cope delivers his political, environmental and spiritual views in his own idiosyncratic and sometimes confusing way.

There is brilliance here tonight and at the end of it all the audience filed out, emotionally exhausted, having witnessed one of rocks finest doing what he does best.
